Weniger ist eben doch mehr... - Josh's Diaries #19

Less is more after all... - Josh's Diaries #19

This email is for you if you run or want to build a small, efficient business and are wondering how to stay visible and generate revenue without constantly posting and being present.

Honest update

There is a trap that almost everyone falls into sooner or later.

Me too – again last week.

The trap is called:

“I need to be visible on all channels now.”

Instagram,

LinkedIn,

YouTube,

Facebook,

TikTok…

You think:

“If I’m visible everywhere, then the business will thrive.”

But the opposite is the case.

Especially if you run a small, lean business – as a solopreneur or with a small e-com team – this is the surest way to get bogged down.

I know that.

And yet, I recently fell into the trap again.

I built ads, posted on LinkedIn at the same time, thought about Instagram content – and at some point I realized:

What am I actually doing here?

I had to think back to the moment when I started my solo agency two and a half years ago.

Back then I tried everything:

Newsletter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn… and had no overview of what actually works.

Until I started tracking my leads.

Simply ask a question in Typeform:

“How do you know me?”

The result was clear:

80% came via LinkedIn.

So I dropped everything else and focused entirely on this one channel.

Only in this way could I quickly build up a solid base of customers

Today the situation is a little different.

I have my clients and I don't currently need LinkedIn for leads.

Now I'm focusing on Facebook ads – for my digital products.

And yet it still happens to me from time to time:

I want to do “everything” again.

Reactivate LinkedIn.

Optimize ads.

Schedule Instagram posts.

But the truth is:

A lean business thrives on focus.

Not from multichannel.

Not from constant noise.

But rather from a clear system – and a single channel that really works.

So if you are also currently building your business:

Ask yourself honestly – where is your target group really active?

And what if you just really step on the gas there?

I am writing all this to you because I believe:

If you want a lean business, you need one thing above all

– Focus.

Not ten half-hearted channels.

But one that you play really well.

Maybe the reminder will help you too.

By the way: If you want to start out as a one-person email marketer yourself, I'll show you the complete LinkedIn strategy from back then in my Solo Agency Masterclass .

Tip for more email sales

I repeatedly see a problem in the flows of many clients – more precisely:
in timing.
Classic example:
the welcome flow.
The emails sometimes arrive 2 to 5 days apart.
The problem:
When someone gives you their email, they are at their warmest.
You don’t want to wait for days – you want to be there as soon as possible.
For one customer, I therefore radically reduced waiting times:
Only 1 day (or sometimes just a few hours) between emails.
Result:
The placed order rate and thus also the sales increased in all emails.
Why?
Because good emails work like good closers:
They approach you while you are interested – not days later when the impulse has long since passed.
So: check your flows.
And consider whether your emails are arriving too late.

Link Lockdown

A collection of links to things I think are worth sharing.

N10 - Permanently shows your current task on the screen – helps a lot with focusing.
KLAK - Makes your Mac keyboard sound like an analog typewriter – for a more tactile typing experience.
Folder Preview - Shows you the contents of a folder directly in the Finder using a shortcut – saves time when searching.
Minimalist web design inspiration - This simple portfolio page reminds us how much clarity good design creates.
See you soon
